Work is underway on the first section of resurfacing works on the northern stretch of South Road between James Congdon Drive, Mile End South and Ashwin Parade, Thebarton.

These works, which involve removing the existing pavement and replacing it with new asphalt, commenced on Monday night, 19 February and are expected to be completed in June 2024.

They are part of the ongoing $22 million resurfacing works along South Road, which will ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the road surface ahead of the start of major T2D works.

Works will be undertaken at night between 6pm and 7am, Sunday to Friday. No work will be undertaken on Saturday nights.

Some short-term road and footpath closures will be in place to facilitate these works. Detours, signage and traffic controllers will be in place to manage traffic flow and ensure motorists, cyclists and pedestrians can safely navigate around the work areas.

Resurfacing works were recently completed on the southern section between Rothesay Avenue and Lloyd Street, Saint Marys.

In addition, more than three kilometres of South Road in both directions have also been resurfaced between Bennet Avenue, Melrose Park and Glengarry Avenue, Glandore, including the intersection of South Road and Cross Road which was completed over the Australia Day long weekend.

The resurfacing of the remaining sections of South Road between Bennet Avenue, Melrose Park and Rothesay Avenue, Saint Marys will be undertaken from mid-2024.

The Henley Beach Road and South Road intersection will be resurfaced as part of northern resurfacing works
