The upgrade of the Pedestrian Actuated Crossing outside Black Forest Primary School has been completed, providing greater protection for pedestrians, including school children, waiting to cross the road.

The work includes the installation of concrete barriers and steel crash cushions to replace the old pedestrian fence, as well as pedestrian ramp upgrades.

The old pedestrian fence had been damaged by wayward vehicles twice in the past three years.

Following community concerns raised about safety at the crossing, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport completed investigations which determined concrete barriers and crash cushions to be the best option in this circumstance.

Main works were undertaken at night during the school holidays to minimise impacts to the school and traffic on South Road.

In the longer term, as part of T2D major construction works, access to Black Forest Primary School is planned to be improved through the installation of a new access and school drop-off area, together with a new shared use path crossing over South Road.
