The River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project is continuing important enabling works in your area, to be best prepared ahead of the start of major construction.

You may have seen resurfacing works on South Road, which we’re doing to ensure the road’s long-term safety and integrity above the tunnels. We are also undertaking service relocations and geotechnical investigations, as well as clearing the sites around where the tunnels will exit and exit, which includes demolition of properties that the project has acquired to facilitate construction.

Works in your area will continue through mid to late 2024. Works will be undertaken from Monday to Saturday between 7am and 6pm. We will be contacting properties adjacent to, or directly impacted by the works, with locations specific information and timeframes prior to works commencing.

In the event these works need to be rescheduled due to weather conditions or other circumstances outside of our control, we will advise you as soon as we have details.

How we minimise disruption

Prior to the demolition works starting, temporary fencing will be installed around properties for safety reasons and utility service disconnections will be undertaken. Necessary care will be undertaken to ensure that there is minimal disruption to all businesses and residents throughout the demolition works.

Boundary fencing will also be reinstated where demolished properties form part of the fence line (i.e., garages and sheds on the boundary). These treatments will be discussed with each property owner as they are identified.

Some minor disturbances can be expected such as noise, dust and vibration associated with the demolition and removal of structural elements, supporting foundations and hardstand areas.

How we manage safety

Once we take ownership of properties, we are endeavouring to demolish as soon as possible to lessen the risk of anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhood. In response to community concerns about break-ins, theft, graffiti and vandalism, we have significantly upgraded security in streets where properties have been recently vacated or demolition works have begun. The new measures include:

  • installing extra CCTV security cameras on vacant properties
  • providing a dedicated, seven-nights-a-week Wilson Security patrol
  • establishing a 24/7 hotline number – 8402 1840 – direct to Wilson Security.

To ensure the safety of the community and workers, an asbestos and hazard assessment will also be completed prior to demolition and any identified hazards will be removed. All asbestos and hazardous material removal works will be carried out by a licensed contractor in accordance with the Environment Protection Authority Guidelines.

During these works there may be pedestrian, traffic and parking restrictions and you may notice additional ground and traffic management personnel and equipment. Please also be aware of additional truck and large vehicle movements within the area. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site.
