As part of the River Torrens to Darlington Project (T2D), the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) will be undertaking resurfacing works on South Road between Bennet Avenue, Melrose Park and Glengarry Avenue, Glandore. The works involve removing the existing pavement and replacing it with new asphalt, which will ensure the long-term safety and integrity of these sections ahead of the start of major T2D project works.

What to expect

Works on South Road between Glengarry Avenue, Glandore and Edward Street, Melrose Park will be carried out in stages with the southbound carriageway, commencing Sunday, 14 May 2023. Works on the northbound carriageway are expected to commence, following completion of the southbound works, in early June, weather permitting. To minimise impact to road users, works will be carried out at night, Sunday to Friday between 6pm and 7am. Works on this section of South Road are expected to be completed in July 2023, weather permitting.

Traffic restrictions

South Road will remain open to traffic at all times; however, the following restrictions are required to safely facilitate these works:

  • Speed and lane restrictions will be in place with one lane of traffic open in both directions during work hours.
  • Adjacent streets are expected to have temporary traffic detours as works progress, please follow directional signage.
  • On site signage will be in place to notify road users of local detours as the works progress.
  • All lanes on South Road will be open outside of work hours, with speed restrictions of 40km/h in place on the carriageway where works are occurring.

Please follow signage, speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area. Motorists should expect delays while resurfacing work is in progress. Please plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and take extra care when workers are on site.

Residents and local business

Some properties on South Road will have some short-term restricted access. The project team will contact affected property owners, residents and businesses directly in advance. Traffic controllers will be on site to assist with access.

What to expect

Some noise disturbances can be expected at times while these works are completed, however, the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents as much as practically possible. This includes scheduling intrusive works in the early evening where possible. You may also notice some odour which is common when asphalting works are underway.

Pedestrians and cyclists

Pedestrians and cyclists should take care when travelling through the area. For safety reasons there may be some restricted access. Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to alternative access and/or detours.

Public transport

Some Adelaide Metro bus services and bus stops, within the project area, may be temporarily impacted while work is underway, please observe bus stop signage and visit http://www.adelaidemetro.com.au for the latest information.
