The suburbs around South Road and the broader project area are some of Adelaide’s oldest, with a rich and important history.

Adelaide’s inner western suburbs date as far back as the 1860s, including Thebarton and Mile End. Many locations are historically and culturally significant, such as the Anzac Highway/Gallipoli Underpass in its role as a memorial boulevard for fallen soldiers who did not return home from war.

The T2D Project team will undertake heritage assessments to ensure the T2D motorway respectfully celebrates the area’s rich history and protects key heritage landmarks along the alignment.

Elements of the project design will reveal stories of the area, both people and places, to create a welcoming and memorable experience for motorway users and the local community.
